Thinking back 8 years ago when my daughter first told me she wanted to be a ballerina, I went on a quest for the best place to make her dream come true. I found it at The Lititz Academy Of Dance! Seeing her thrilled to go to classes every week and her dedication to dance is all because of the love and confidence you have given her all these years.

Our daughter has been at Lititz Academy of Dance since just before her third birthday.  I was looking for a dance studio that would not only teach dance, but also be a place she wanted to go and would enjoy for many years.  She is now entering her fifth year with LAD and we have found so much more than that.  Miss Lisa and her staff display their love of dance equally with the love of their dancers.  What strikes me most is how the dancers treat one another.  The more experienced dancers recognize that the younger dancers are in awe of them and treat the younger dancers with respect and love.  They learn that behavior directly from the way the instructors treat all the dancers.  The encouragement the instructors give is also inspiring.  Our daughter, at the age of five, told Miss Lisa she’d like to be a Rockette when she grows up. Instead of telling our daughter that it was a hard dream to achieve, Miss Lisa looked in her eyes and responded that she could help her with that. 

Generosity is another virtue taught alongside dance at LAD.  Over the last several years, CoJoMotion and other invited performers have come together to raise thousands of dollars for Make-A-Wish Foundation.  Through the efforts of Miss Lisa, her staff, the dancers and dance families, many sick children have been granted wishes.  The dancers learn a valuable lesson-that they can use their time and talents to do good for others. 

Technically, the dancers learn amazing things.  To see an entire class of dancers pirouette in perfect synchronicity is awe-inspiring.  The recital is a showcase of the high caliber of choreographers that Miss Lisa has assembled on her staff.  Master classes are held with professional dancers and choreographers at the studio, and bus trips to New York City have been organized in order for the dancers to participate in dance classes there.  This also instills dedication in the dancers, as many of the dancers who have graduated over the last several years have been with Lititz Academy of Dance for many years.

Dance, dedication, encouragement, generosity, respect and love, along with a sense of friendship and family all set this school apart from others.  Our family is absolutely blown away by the experience of being with Miss Lisa and her staff, and we can’t wait to spend many, many more years as part of the LAD family!

My name is Elizabeth Lausch and I am currently a Temple University Modern Dance Performance Major. During my high-school years, I came in contact with the Lititz Academy of Dance. Since I was eight, I had been dancing with other schools and companies all over the area, and I was refreshed to finally come across a studio that knew exactly what I was looking for: a technically strong, professional, artistic academy in a loving and kind environment. At the Lititz Academy of Dance, the dancer is made to feel welcomed and loved, unlike at many other dance studios. Every individual student that is a part of this community has a name as well as a soul, and is not made to feel as if he or she is just another body. On an artistic level, this studio also offers great opportunities in assistance, Jr. Teaching, and choreography. This is when students who show they are mature enough as well as show strong and hard work in class are asked to do anything from help out one of the full time teachers in class, to having a class of their very own.

The Lititz Academy of Dance has offered me, personally, a place to release all of the stress and negative build-up of the day. This studio is where I came, and will continue to suggest that new and experienced dancers come to have fun, learn very strong technique, and learn to dance with every fiber in their soul. This studio is amazing; this studio is my home.

Reflections:
When Lizzy came to Lititz Academy of Dance she was a little bird with a broken wing. Several months earlier she had been humiliated. Her tap teacher was incensed when Lizzy could not attend a dance competition. In her anger this teacher instructed the other students in the class to demean and diminish Lizzy. In her anger this “teacher” modeled and promoted bullish behavior, a trait never accepted by real teachers. In retrospect this nightmarish incident was a stroke of luck, as Lizzy's dad and I were forced to find a better, kinder situation for our daughter.

Our search found us at the door of LAD where Lizzy felt she needed to “audition” as her self-esteem was tattered and torn. The moment Miss Lisa met Lizzy and Lizzy met Miss Lisa a match-made-in -heaven was born. Not only had Lizzy found an outstanding and talented artistic dancer, she found a loving friend, a role model, and a hero. Lisa smiled softly as Lizzy apologized for her lack of skill and experience, and assured her that she was a perfect fit. 

Lisa is a teacher first and addresses the needs of her students first. Like most master teachers she realizes that the subject matter (dancing) will follow if the children are happy and confident. Before Lizzy began classes at the studio, Lisa talked to her other students and reminded them of acceptable behaviors toward each other. The girls were as warm and welcoming as Lisa and several life-long friendships began.

Lizzy has grown into a beautiful dancer and more importantly into a beautiful, caring, and confident young woman. She has been accepted into the Rockette Summer Intensive training program and PA Governor’s School for the Arts. She was invited to dance a self-choreographed solo for her senior class at baccalaureate. Currently she is a Dean’s List freshmen modern dance major at Temple University’s Boyer College of Music and Dance. Thanks to Lisa, Tony, Leslie and everyone at Lititz Academy of Dance, Lizzy has a wonderful future ahead of her.

 I have three girls, all of whom have been dancing with Miss Lisa since they were little girls. Chelsea, Chandler and Delaney Johnson have been learning dance from the wonderful Miss Lisa and other teachers on her amazing staff for years and have loved every minute of it. In addition to the beautiful studio, fantastic dance training and extraordinary group of teachers, the feeling of being in an extended family is what makes this dance school truly unique. The studio is such a big part of our life and we hope it will be for years to come. The students are treated with love and respect but are also taught the value of commitment and what it means to be part of a team. We know that they will remember fondly, the experiences they have had there and the relationships they have built there for the rest of their lives. The studio is such a big part of our life and we would recommend Lititz Academy of Dance to anyone who was looking for a dance school for their children.

In August 2002, I received a phone call from my mom informing me that she had just signed my 3-year-old daughter for dance class at Lititz Academy of Dance. I was, to say the least, a little upset. I had just become a single mother the same year and did not need any added stress or worries. I walked into LAD for the first time and was overwhelmed by an excited and enthusiastic voice. I found out in the next moment that the voice belonged to Lisa Kalinowski, owner of LAD, who welcomed my daughter and I to her studio family. Dance class and all that it encompasses was very overwhelming for me, to say the least. I was born and raised a tomboy and dance class was extremely foreign to me.

Over the past 6 years, things have become a little easier with the help from Miss Lisa and Miss Leslie. I have learned the difference between jazz and ballet shoes, leotards and tights, and how to put dance skirts and sweaters on my daughter. Since I only have the knowledge of sneakers, volleyballs, knee pads and such, it was an amazing feat that they were able to teach me all that I needed to know. It also took a caring, loving and patient woman like Miss Lisa to teach me all I need to know.

I also spoke to Miss Lisa May of 2008 about the color of my daughters costumes. For the past 5 out of 6 years, my daughter's costumes have been pink. Pink is not "exactly" my daughter's favorite color. At the beginning of this dance year, I asked Miss Lisa what I needed to do to try and make sure that ..........before I could finish Miss Lisa said, "Mikaila's costume is not pink!" I could not believe that 4 months after I had spoken to her she remembered about Mikaila's pink costume issue. She has so many other students and a family to take care of, but she remembered a simple little concern about my daughter. Miss Lisa remembering this brought tears to my eyes because of the look on my daughters face when she remembered.

2008 has been a very rough year for me. I have struggled to get my child support and I lost my job. I was very upset and concerned that Mikaila would not be able to continue to dance at LAD. When I spoke to Miss Lisa and Miss Leslie about my current situation, I was told that they would work with me on the tuition and costume deposits. Miss Lisa said that any child with a heart like my daughters should not be denied the opportunity to dance. I was so appreciative. It took two months, but I worked things out and was current within two months.

Miss Lisa is the most caring individual I have ever met. She loves every dancer in her dance family, from the little tiny dancer to the most experienced dancer in the LAD family. Miss Lisa has the patience of the saint, especially to deal with crazy parents like me. She has truly created a dance family at Lititz Academy of Dance and I am truly honored to be part of the LAD dance family.

I just wanted to take the time to thank you for being the kind, caring, loving and patient person that you are. And thank you for always putting a smile on my face whenever I walk through the door at LAD.

Being a teacher does not mean throwing material at students and expecting them to pick it up. It means taking the time to actually help them along through the difficulties and frustrations that can accompany learning. If more teachers (dance and other) would take lessons from Miss Lisa and the other teachers that my daughter has had over the past 6 years at Lititz Academy of Dance, the entire student population would excel! LAD is truly a place where a child (or adult) can go to feel as though they are learning the technique needed for dance, as well as, the freedom to make mistakes but keep on going. My daughter was not quite 3 years old when she saw one of Miss Lisa's preschool classes at the studio in October 2002 and decided she wanted to dance. She has been dancing here ever since. I am still amazed at the incredible patience and enthusiasm Miss Lisa has for even her youngest dancers. She makes learning to dance fun! My daughter has also had the opportunity to be taught by Miss Stefanie and Miss Michelle and has thoroughly enjoyed those classes as well. Miss Lisa ~
Such a wonderful kind hearted woman. I know I can speak for all the girls at the studio in saying that we all love her SO much. She will never judge you and is just like a second mom to everyone. I don't think I have ever seen her without a smile on her face. Now lets not forget her dancing/choreography! She is just amazing in that department. The recitals just get better and better, and I always look forward to that time of the year. I really truly love you Miss Lisa.

Ms Michelle ~
Words can not describe how I feel about her. She is a great teacher too just like Miss Lisa. Her choreography is OUT OF THIS WORLD! She is so incredibly sweet and loves all of us. She is a great teacher and is so caring to our needs and going slow when we need her to so we can understand what's going on. I love having her as a teacher.

Miss Stef ~
Wow. Miss Stef is such a great person. She came to teach at our studio only a short time ago, but she fit right in and well all love her so much too. Her choreography is great too. Its cool because she came from another studio originally so she could bring all sorts of new things for us to learn. I'm so glad we have you as a teacher Miss Stef.

I truly love this studio and now that !'m getting to my final years at the studio, I can't bear the thought of not being there everyday of the week. They are my family and I love ALL of them deeply. If you are looking for a good studio to come and dance at, I would recommend Lititz Academy to you any day.
