Abby Brubaker

Currently residing in Pennsylvania, Abby Brubaker is a performer, choreographer, and creative artist. Ever since she was a little girl she has felt a pull towards movement and music as a way to express herself. Growing up in Cusco, Peru, she was exposed to Peruvian dance forms and culture, causing her movement expression to have roots in latin aesthetics, while the bulk of her early dance training was completed at the Lititz Academy of Dance. At LAD she was exposed to forms of jazz, tap, lyrical, modern, hip-hop, while also furthering her ballet training. As a student at LAD she had the opportunity to take classes from Jason Samuel Smith, Sue Samuels, Heather Rigg, and Eric Campros. Brubaker is currently pursuing her BFA in dance at Slippery Rock University, with a concentration in performance and choreography. She has furthered her dance training by attending various dance intensives, including: The Rock School for Dance Education Summer Intensive, Point Park University Summer Intensive, the Jon Lehrer Summer and Winter Intensives, and the American Dance Festival. While pursuing her BFA she has had the opportunity to work with many choreographers, notably Vincent E. Thomas, Jaka Zakajinn, Staycee Pearl, and Jon Lehrer. Currently she is the president of SRU’s chapter of the National Honor Society for Dance Arts, Co-Senior Coordinator of Palenque: Colombian Dance Ensemble, and secretary of the Multidisciplinary Arts Collective. Brubaker is also a registered yoga teacher and practitioner. Upon completion of her degree at SRU she hopes to pursue a professional dance career, and anticipates the opportunity to perform, choreograph, and teach dance throughout her life.
